A UK landlord has been sentenced to prison for’sex for rent’ offenses.

A landlord who forced a homeless woman to sleep with him in exchange for a room has been sentenced to prison for’sex for rent’ offenses in England and Wales.

In 2018, Christopher Cox, 53, sought out vulnerable young ladies to live with him in Cranleigh, Surrey. In exchange for housing rent, he allegedly urged women to wear bikinis around the house, participate in BDSM, and sleep in his bed.

‘If you are a young girl 16-plus who is stuck at home and wants to get out, or maybe you are homeless seeking a safe route out, I have a room available in my home for a young lady,’ he said on a rent agency website.

In the advertisement, he stated that they would be required to ‘cook, clean, do laundry, and possibly more’ in exchange for a place to stay.

One of his victims, Guildford Crown Court heard on Tuesday, May 10, was a homeless lady who was ‘unwell, desperate, suicidal, needed hip replacement surgery, and was in pain.’

Cox described his behavior as his “dirty secret” in a communication to his friends, according to the prosecution. In August 2018, two female undercover reporters from ITV’s The Kyle Files replied to internet adverts for ‘a girl in need,’ alerting cops to his actions.

He continued to send out his advertisements even after being approached by television cameras. ‘I got myself into a little of hot water due to my sex-for-rent renters,’ Cox allegedly told associates at the time. When Surrey Police checked his phone, they discovered evidence of a homeless woman agreeing to a deal out of “desperation.”

The defense attorney, Rupert Hallowes, claimed that his client, who had previously been convicted of sexually abusing a young boy in the 1980s, believed that his activities were only illegal if he sought sex three times a week.

Cox’s actions were a “cynical attempt to take advantage of individuals” by “quite deliberately targeting homeless ladies who were vulnerable,” according to Judge Robert Fraser. The crime has now been dubbed “sex-for-rent,” according to the judge, and “this is the first such prosecution that has been brought.”

The judge said Cox, “It is astonishing and tells something about your drive to continue that you put subsequent advertisements.”

‘Perhaps it reveals something about the strength of your sexual desire.’ After admitting to encouraging and directing prostitution, Cox was sentenced to one year in prison.
