Andrey Rublev, a Russian tennis player, has called his country’s invasion of Ukraine ‘awful,’ adding that ‘peace is the most important thing,’ just days after winning an ATP doubles title with a Ukrainian partner.

In Marseille, the Russian world No. 7 and Ukrainian Denys Molchanov won the ATP title.

“In these moments you recognize that my match is not relevant,” Rublev wrote in response to his country’s invasion of Ukraine. It’s not about how my match affects me. What’s going on is far more heinous.’

‘You realize how critical it is for the world to be at peace, for people to respect each other no matter what, and for people to be unified. It’s about how we should look after our planet and each other. This is it.
