Antonio Rudiger, a Chelsea defender, has reportedly turned down a Manchester United offer.

Antonio Rudiger, a Chelsea defender, is said to have turned down a Manchester United offer.

Rudiger, 29, is one of United’s defensive targets when the transfer market opens in June, according to reports, because his contract at Stamford Bridge expires at the end of the season.

As Manchester United’s Harry Maguire has struggled this season, the two parties are thought to have discussed a possible trade for Rudiger to join Old Trafford.

Rudiger expressed his pleasure at Chelsea in February, but stated that his wage demands must be addressed if he is to stay at the club.

“I feel wonderful here, I’ve always said it,” Rudiger told The Athletic. I guess you can tell I’m happy here by the way I play. ‘However, there are others who must make decisions.’

According to the Manchester Evening News, Rudiger is expected to reject United’s offers because he wants to join a team that will compete in the Champions League next season.

The news comes as a huge blow to United, who are in desperate need of a top central defender after conceding 44 goals already this season in the Premier League.

United recruited Raphael Varane from Real Madrid last year, but the Frenchman has battled to stay in the team due to injuries since arriving in Manchester. This season, he’s only made 15 appearances. While Lindelof and Bailly have been underwhelming at times this season.
