Chris Rock is said to have been unaware that Jada Pinkett Smith suffers from alopecia.

According to TMZ, Chris Rock had no idea who Jada Pinkett Smith was when he joked about her bald head at the 2022 Oscars.

On Monday, a source told the newspaper, “[He] doesn’t have a mean bone in his body.”

On Sunday night, Will Smith slapped Rock, 57, for making fun of his wife.

Rock joked onstage as he prepared to deliver Best Documentary, “Jada, I love you, ‘G.I. Jane 2,’ can’t wait to see it.”

Smith, 53, initially laughed off the insult, but when he observed Pinkett Smith’s enraged reaction, he grew enraged as well and stormed the stage to confront Rock in defense of his wife.

When Smith regained his seat, he continuously yelled at Rock, “Keep my wife’s name out of it!”

“That was the greatest night in the history of television,” Rock said calmly, promising not to bring up Pinkett Smith, 50, again.

Pinkett Smith, who debuted a shaven head last summer, suffers from alopecia and has spoken publicly about her hair loss.

“I can only laugh at this point,” she stated in an Instagram video from months ago, pointing to a fully bald spot on her head.

“As you know, I’ve been suffering from alopecia. Take a look at this line right here… it just appeared that way. And since hiding this is going to be a little more harder for me, I figured I’d just disclose it so no one questions me.”

The Academy responded Sunday night that it “does not condone violence of any kind” in reaction to Smith’s support of his wife. By Monday, the organization had issued a statement “condemning” Smith’s behavior and announcing the start of a “formal review.”

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Smith is likely to face disciplinary action, including the suspension of his Academy membership, which members have demanded. His Best Actor Oscar, which he received for his portrayal in “King Richard” on Sunday night, is less likely to be revoked.

According to the Los Angeles Police Department, Rock has not filed a police record against Smith for his onstage smack.

Although Sean “Diddy” Combs told Page Six exclusively that Smith and Rock had resolved their feud on Sunday night, several sources claim the two have not spoken since the on-screen confrontation.
