Erik ten Hag is expected to be named Manchester United’s new permanent manager.

Manchester United is nearing a deal to hire Erik ten Hag from Ajax as their new manager.

According to Mail Online, conversations have taken place with the Dutch club to determine the terms of Ten Hag’s release, marking a big step forward for United in their pursuit of the 52-year-old.

Ten Hag’s Ajax contract expires at the end of next season, and the talks took place at the end of last week, indicating that United is now ready to move further with his signing.

Ten Hag’s compensation would be slightly over £1.6 million, far less than Paris Saint-demand Germain’s for the release of Mauricio Pochettino, the other prominent candidate for the job.

Ten Hag was a top contender for the role when Sportsmail first reported on him in November, before breaking the news of his interview last month.

United’s search for a permanent replacement to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been termed as ‘advanced,’ while club insiders emphasised on Wednesday night that they have yet to make a final decision.
