In Texas, a child was driving a pickup truck that collided with a golfers’ van, killing nine people, according to the National Transportation Safety Board.

Authorities reported Thursday that a 13-year-old kid was driving a pickup truck that collided with a van in Texas, killing nine people, including six New Mexico college golfers, in a catastrophic incident.

According to National Transportation Safety Board vice chairman Bruce Landsberg, the unnamed youngster was driving illegally on a spare tire before it blew out and the truck slammed into a van carrying golfers from the University of the Southwest Tuesday night.

According to investigators and Siemens’ grieving widow, the 13-year-old driver and his 38-year-old father Henrich Siemens, who were on their way to pick up a new automobile, died in the incident.

“They were on their way to pick up an automobile that [Siemens] had purchased.” She added, “I was scheduled to see him in approximately two hours,” and that they left around 8 p.m.

Mauricio Sanchez, 19, Travis Garcia, 19, Jackson Zinn, 22, Karisa Raines, 21, Laci Stone, 18, and Tiago Sousa, 18, were killed in the crash.

Tyler James, their coach and the driver of the Ford van, was also slain.

“This was certainly a high-speed incident,” Landsberg said, adding that the speed at which the vehicles collided remained unknown.

The reason of the crash has yet to be determined, but cops have ordered toxicology and other forensics studies, according to Texas DPS Sgt. Steven Blanco.

To get a provisional license in Texas, you must be at least 15 years old, and you must be 14 years old to take classes to gain a learner’s license.

While returning from a golf competition in Midland, where both the women’s and men’s teams competed, the college’s Ford Transit van was carrying nine people and hauling a box trailer.

The accident is still being investigated.
