Man United have opened talks with the agent of Napoli striker Victor Osimhen, putting them ahead of Arsenal and Newcastle in the battle to recruit him.

Manchester United are said to be ahead of Arsenal and Newcastle in the fight to recruit Victor Osimhen of the Super Eagles and Napoli this summer.

According to sources in Italy, Osimhen, 23, is being pursued by a number of Premier League clubs after scoring 16 goals in 28 appearances for Napoli in Serie A this season.

The Nigerian international only joined Napoli in 2020 after a £67 million transfer from Lille, which means he still has over three years left on his current deal and may command a high fee from any possible suitors in the summer transfer season.

United have already begun talks with Osimhen’s representative, Roberto Calenda, who is described as “the bridge that unites Naples and Manchester” by Italian magazine Corriere dello Sport.

Calenda is said to be initiating talks with Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis, sports director Cristiano Giuntoli, and Osimhen himself over his client’s potential move to Old Trafford.

Newcastle United had an £84 million bid turned down in January, but they are set to try again this summer, with Arsenal also interested.

Napoli anticipates a bidding war for their top striker at the end of the season, with a starting price of £84 million.
