“Mino’s work had such an impact on so many people, and he helped to write a new chapter in the history of modern football. His presence will be missed for the rest of time.

“Mino’s mission to make football a better environment for players will be carried on with the same zeal.” The agent was honored by Paris Saint-Germain, who wrote: “Mino Raiola, the charismatic sports agent, died today after a brief illness.

“Through its president, the club expresses its condolences to his family and friends.”

“Our sincere sympathies to the Raiola family and all of Mino’s friends for their awful loss,” AC Milan said in a statement.

Raiola was born in Italy but went to the Netherlands as a child, where he played football before moving into sports administration and eventually becoming an agent.

In 1996, he signed Pavel Nedved from Sparta Prague to Lazio, which was his first huge transaction.

Pogba’s return to Manchester United from Juventus in 2016 for €105 million (£87.4 million) was his most lucrative agreement to date, with the Frenchman reportedly pocketing $25 million.
