Mom awoke from a coma to learn that both of her arms had been severed after she was nearly killed by three pit dogs.

Kyleen Waltman, a 38-year-old mother of three who was nearly killed by three pit bulls last month, awoke from her coma to learn that her arms had been amputated.

Since the near-fatal incident on March 21, Waltman has had three operations and has fought high blood pressure, fever, and respiratory difficulties.

In South Carolina, a witness who observed her being attacked in a ditch fired his gun into the air, scaring the dogs away.

According to her relatives, she just awoke from a coma to find that both of her limbs had been amputated, and she became so agitated by her situation that doctors were forced to sedate her and put her back on a ventilator.

She was walking home in rural Honea Path, some 80 miles northwest of Columbia, South Carolina, when she was attacked by three vicious dogs.

Waltman’s sister, Amy Wynne, described the succession of health problems she’s experienced since the attack in a devastating GoFundMe post. Kyleen was so distressed when she finally woke up, she claimed, that physicians were forced to sedate her. ‘Now they have taken off everything on the arms,’ Wynne wrote,’so she can no longer have ordinary prosthetics.’

‘So here we are, trying to figure out how to protect her from dwelling on the terrible aspects of her life.’ I realize that she had arms for 38 years and now she doesn’t, and I understand how she feels. She’s still putting up a fight. ‘Prayers are working, and she is gradually recuperating.’ Wynne also stated that her sister has a long road to rehabilitation ahead of her.

‘Her blood pressure is still quite high, and she has a temperature of 102+,’ Wynne wrote on the GoFundMe website. ‘Her oxygen levels keep plummeting, so she’s back on the ventilator.’ ‘Mama thinks it’s as though she’s surrendering.’ Before you go assuming her family and I aren’t going to give up, let me say this: we aren’t going to give up. For a purpose, the Lord has brought her thus far. Her tale isn’t over yet.’

Waltman’s best friend, Tanya Gilmer, said:

‘As far as I know, the dogs simply jumped on her, and you can see where she fought the dogs on the road if you walk down there,’ Gilmer added.

According to the Greenwood Index Journal, Avery Presley, a local farmer who scared the dogs away by blasting his gun into the air, remarked, “I ain’t no hero.”

‘I’m still kicking myself for not arriving earlier.’ For my own safety, I always carry a gun.’

According to The State, the dogs’ owner, Justin Minor, was arrested and charged with three counts of owning a dangerous animal that attacked and injured a human, rabies control violation, and dangerous animal not permitted beyond premises unless confined.
