The United Kingdom has sanctioned the daughters of Russian President Vladimir Putin and Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov over the conflict in Ukraine.

On Friday, April 8, the United Kingdom slapped penalties against Russian President Vladimir Putin’s children and Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov in response to Moscow’s invasion of Ukraine.

Following sanctions against Putin’s daughters Katerina Tikhonova and Maria Vorontsova, as well as Lavrov’s daughter Yekaterina Vinokurova, the Foreign Office claimed it was focusing on the “opulent lifestyles of the Kremlin’s closest circle.”

The fresh measures follow similar moves taken by the US against the three women, who are now subject to travel bans and asset freezes in the United Kingdom.

“Through the G7, we’re working with partners to phase out Russian energy and make it more difficult for Putin to support his unlawful and illegitimate invasion of Ukraine,” Foreign Secretary Liz Truss said.

Since Russia’s military offensive began in February, the UK has sanctioned over 1,200 persons and businesses, including 76 oligarchs.
