“We will never forget,” Cristiano Ronaldo’s family said of Liverpool fans’ devotion when his baby boy died tragically.

Cristiano Ronaldo’s family has expressed gratitude to Liverpool fans for deferring the customary Manchester United-Liverpool rivalry in order to show solidarity for the Manchester United star following the death of his infant son.

On Monday, April 18, Ronaldo revealed that one of his newborn twins, a boy, had died. He was then absent from Tuesday’s match against Liverpool as he and his partner Georgina Rodriguez mourned their loss, with Liverpool beating United 4-0 on Tuesday night.

To demonstrate their support for the 37-year-old, Liverpool fans began singing ‘You’ll Never Walk Alone’ in the seventh minute of the match, which is Ronaldo’s legendary shirt number.

Despite the clubs’ bitter rivalry, Man Utd stated before of the game that the idea to assist Ronaldo was originally presented by Liverpool fans.

“A fan-led minute’s applause will be held in the seventh minute of the game in a tribute to the Portuguese striker and his partner Georgina, after they confirmed the loss of their new-born baby boy on Monday,” Manchester United said in a statement. “On social media, messages of support from all over the football world are constantly pouring in, and everyone’s thoughts are with the Ronaldo family right now.”

“While United and Liverpool have the biggest rivalry in English football, there is a deep-rooted respect between the two clubs, which will be underscored by the minute’s applause, which was suggested by Liverpool fans.”

Ronaldo’s sister Elma praised the club for their support in an Instagram post.

“Thank you for this Liverpool,” she wrote. “What you accomplished today has left an indelible impression on us.”
