Australia will host the Commonwealth Games in 2026.

The Commonwealth Games in 2026 have been formally given to the Australian state of Victoria, marking the sixth time Australia has hosted the event but the first time it has been handed to a state or region.

The Commonwealth Games Federation (CGF) has announced that the 2026 Commonwealth Games will be held in a number of locations, including Melbourne, which hosted the 2006 Games, and that sixteen sports have been confirmed for the initial schedule, with up to seven more expected to be added.

Dame Louise Martin, head of the Commonwealth Games Federation, said, “The Commonwealth Games Federation is immensely happy to offer the 2026 Commonwealth Games to Victoria.”

“Commonwealth Games Australia and the Victorian Government have laid out a bold and imaginative vision for hosting our major multi-sport event that provides an exciting new template.”

In 2018, the Games were held in the Gold Coast in Australia. Birmingham will host the 2022 Commonwealth Games from July 28 to August 8.
