David de Gea has been crowned Premier League Player of the Month for the first time in six years, becoming the first goalkeeper to do so.

In January, the 31-year-old Spaniard produced 22 saves in four games for Manchester United, helping them climb into the Premier League’s top four.

Fraser Forster of Southampton was the latest goalkeeper to win the award in February 2016.

It is the first time in De Gea’s 11-year Manchester United career that he has been named Premier League Player of the Month.

De Gea was chosen from a six-man January shortlist that included Jarrod Bowen, Kevin De Bruyne, Jack Harrison, Joao Moutinho, and James Ward-Prowse.

Meanwhile, Wolves manager Bruno Lage has been named Manager of the Month after leading his team to three consecutive victories in January.
