The actor was transported to the hospital, but when he arrived, he was proclaimed dead.

“Deep Sidhu perished as a result of the accident. “A woman who was with him was taken to the hospital with injuries,” police inspector Jaspal Singh added.

“An investigation is underway to ascertain the actual cause of the accident.”

The actor sparked outrage for his role in the nationwide protests against farm rules that erupted in India last year.

On January 26, the Rang Punjab actor was detained after being accused of leading a group of protesters who used tractors to storm Delhi’s famous Red Fort.

On the outside of the otherwise calm event, demonstrators battled with police.

A two-week manhunt was started in an attempt to apprehend the actor, with a £1000 reward given for information.

He was detained for two months after his arrest before being released on bond.

“Deeply saddened to read of the terrible loss of renowned actor and social activist Deep Sidhu,” commented Charanjit S Channi, the chief minister of his home state.

“My thoughts and prayers are with the bereaved family and fans.”

Born in Punjab state, Sidhu started his career as a model before landing a role in the film Ramta Jogi in 2015, according to CNN affiliate CNN News-18.
