Following charges of rape and assault, Nike ended its sponsorship of Manchester United forward Mason Greenwood.

After Manchester United forward Mason Greenwood was arrested and eventually freed on police bail, Nike has withdrawn their sponsorship of him.

The 20-year-old was detained on suspicion of rape and assault on a woman towards the end of January. He was subsequently detained again on charges of sexual assault and making death threats before being released on bail on February 2nd.

Greenwood will not train or play for United again until further notice, according to the club.

Nike first put a halt to their relationship with the forward, but they have now acknowledged that it has finished.

“Mason Greenwood is no longer a Nike athlete,” a company official told The Athletic.

“A 20-year-old man arrested (on Sunday 30 January 2022) on suspicion of rape and assault of a woman has been released on bail pending further investigation,” GMP said in a statement last Wednesday.

“Mason Greenwood will not return to training or play matches until further notice,” United said in a statement the day Greenwood was arrested.
