With Louis Van Gaal stepping down to treat ‘aggressive’ prostate cancer, Holland have named Ronald Koeman as their next manager.

Former Barcelona coach Ronald Koeman will succeed Louis van Gaal as Holland’s national head coach after the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

On January 1, 2023, Koeman, who was fired by Barcelona in October 2021 after the club’s worst start to a season since the 1987-88 season, will return to international management.

Because of his ‘experience,’ Van Gaal believes Koeman will be a ‘worthy successor.’ Koeman, on the other hand, says he’is looking forward to the new cooperation.’

Van Gaal said that he was facing a ‘aggressive’ form of prostate cancer during an interview to promote a new documentary on his life, and that he had already taken treatment on 25 occasions.

However, the 70-year-old manager announced that he will lead the Netherlands to the 2022 World Cup in Qatar before stepping down as national coach.

Since then, the KNVB has declared that Koeman, who left to coach Barcelona in 2020, will take over as manager of the Netherlands on January 1, 2023.

Koeman’s deal with the Netherlands will last until the 2024 European Championship and the 2026 World Cup.

‘I am looking forward to the new partnership,’ Koeman said of his new position. I certainly did not leave the Dutch national team out of frustration a little over a year and a half ago.

‘My tenure was enjoyable, the results were satisfactory, and I got along well with the internationals.’ That course will be followed in the near future. That is unquestionably true for me.’

Van Gaal has given Koeman his consent to take over as Holland manager next season, calling him as a “logical successor.”

‘I think that is really sensible,’ Van Gaal remarked at a press conference on Monday. I informed them on my own. It isn’t tough at all. I was the sole experienced coach available a year ago.

‘Ronald Koeman currently falls into this category. That is not something I am saying for myself, but for him. He’d make an excellent successor.’

‘I have now had four times as national coach, and in every term, I went to the hospital in the evening or at night,’ Van Gaal said of his decision to leave the Netherlands post. Without the players’ permission.

‘They still think, ‘What a healthy pear that is,’ when they see my crimson cheeks.’ Of course, I’m not one of them.

‘I don’t think you should say things like that to the individuals you work with because it might impact their decisions or decisiveness or whatever.’ They shouldn’t know,’ I reasoned.
