In what might be the most Florida thing to ever happen, a homeowner received an alert from their Ring doorbell camera only to discover two enormous alligators had come calling. The surreal 30-second video, which has since gone viral, shows the reptilian duo approaching a home’s entrance with an almost human-like determination.
The footage, shared by Reddit user byzvntine on April 18 to a Florida-focused forum, captures what can only be described as the most intimidating door-to-door salesmen imaginable. And yes, one of them actually rang the doorbell!
The video begins innocently enough with two massive gators approaching the home’s teal blue door. Then, in a moment that seems straight out of a comedy sketch, one of the alligators rears up on its hind legs, pressing its snout directly against the camera lens. The close-up of its cold, watchful eye is both fascinating and slightly terrifying.
Meanwhile, its companion waits patiently on the walkway, apparently the more laid-back of the duo. When no one answers their ring, the determined gator decides to take matters into its own claws.
The reptile creeps forward, crosses the welcome mat (clearly ignoring its message), and begins an impressive attempt to open the door. It claws at both the door and wall with surprising purpose – until gravity intervenes.
In perhaps the most relatable moment of reptilian embarrassment ever captured, the top-heavy alligator loses its balance and topples sideways into a cushioned bench. It ends up awkwardly wedged between the wall and bench legs in a predicament many of us might recognize from our own late-night adventures.
The brief pause that follows – with the gator shifting slightly as if processing its dignity – had Reddit users in stitches. Through it all, its companion remains completely unbothered, the perfect wingman who pretends not to notice when things go wrong.
“LMAO not them ringing the damn doorbell,” one commenter wrote, while another added the perfect punchline: “So you’re telling me they’re… InvestiGATORS?”
While the video provides comedy gold, wildlife experts remind Florida residents that alligator encounters require caution. Christopher Gillette from Bellowing Acres Sanctuary explained that recent weather events like Hurricane Milton have displaced many alligators.
“Flooding gives alligators access to places they normally wouldn’t reach. Always keep your distance,” Gillette warned. These prehistoric-looking creatures call all 67 Florida counties home, and despite their awkward land movements, they can sprint up to an alarming 35 mph when motivated.
The video quickly spread across social media platforms with comments ranging from genuine concern to humor. “If you’re cold, they’re cold. Take your swamp puppies inside,” joked one user, while others dubbed the pair “Florida’s version of door-to-door salesmen.”
Despite their persistence, the alligators ultimately left empty-handed (or empty-clawed) when no one answered the door. Thankfully, the homeowner had the good sense to enjoy this wild Florida moment from the safety of their Ring app rather than greeting these unexpected visitors in person.
This bizarre encounter serves as yet another reminder that in Florida, you never quite know who – or what – might come knocking. And if your doorbell rings after dark, it might be worth checking the camera before rushing to answer.
