Americans living in Russia are being asked to leave immediately by the US State Department.

Due to tensions with Ukraine, the US State Department has advised its people to leave Russia immediately.

“US citizens should consider fleeing Russia quickly via commercial methods currently accessible,” according to a security notice released on the website of the US Embassy in Moscow on February 27.

“A preparedness plan that does not rely on US government aid” was requested of American individuals. The State Department also warned of “possible Russian government security officials harassing US individuals.”

President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, said on Sunday that the European Union is also closing its airspace to Russia. A number of European countries, notably Germany, France, and Italy, have already barred Russian planes and aircraft from their airspace.

Over the weekend, the EU also stated that it will fund weaponry shipments to Ukraine and prohibit pro-Kremlin media from being broadcast. It also stated that it would provide combat jets to the Ukrainian military.
