Artyom Datsishin, a Ukrainian ballet star, died three weeks after being injured in Kyiv by Russian shelling. He was 43 years old at the time.
Tatiana Borokiv, a friend of Datsishin’s, revealed the news of his death in a Facebook post.
She wrote, “May your memories be bright.”
The globally acclaimed dancer was a former soloist at Ukraine’s National Opera, where he starred in The Nutcracker, Swan Lake, and Sleeping Beauty.
The loss has left Russian-American choreographer Alexei Ratmansky “furious” and in “unbearable pain,” according to the Evening Standard.
In a Facebook post, Anatoly Solovyanenko, chief stage director at Ukraine’s National Opera, named Datsishin “a magnificent talent” and “a wonderful man.”
Datsishin’s death comes after that of Oksana Shvets, a Ukrainian actress.
