According to a source, a 3-year-old kid in Illinois inadvertently shot and killed his mother after discovering a revolver in the backseat of the family’s car.
According to WLS, the horrible event occurred after Dejah Bennet and her boyfriend arrived with her son to a grocery in the Chicago suburb of Dolton on Saturday.
The kid was in the backseat of the car and began playing with the pistol when it discharged, according to the report.
Bennet was hit in the neck by the gunshot. Soon later, she was pronounced dead.
Romell Watson, the boy’s father, was detained and later charged with a misdemeanor firearms offense, according to WLS.
On Sunday, following the fatal shooting, Dolton community activist Andrew Holmes handed out 400 gun locks outside of the supermarket.
“This could have been prevented,” Holmes told the news outlet.
Holmes said the father had admitted the firearm was his.
