Jennifer Lopez claimed on Wednesday that she and Ben Affleck were equally surprised when they reconnected after decades apart.
“I don’t believe anyone was more startled than we were,” the 52-year-old star of “Marry Me” stated on “The Ellen DeGeneres Show.”
“You could never fathom something like that happening.” It’s a lovely thing.”
Lopez and Affleck, 49, played a part in resurrecting the Aughts by reuniting in April 2021. The duo famously dated in 2002 — and were engaged — before calling it quits two years later.
Lopez told DeGeneres, 64, that she is “again in love” with Affleck, as she had previously stated in her People cover story earlier this month.
The “Selena” star also told the magazine that she experienced “a little bit of fear” about returning to such a high-profile relationship.
“We both were like, ‘Wow, we’re so happy and we don’t want any of that to come into play again,’” Lopez explained.
“Now that we’re older, smarter, and have more experience, we’re at different stages of our lives, and we have children, we have to be extremely aware of those things.” We’re quite guarded because this is such a special time for all of us.”
Lopez has two children with ex-husband Marc Anthony, 13-year-old twins Max and Emme. They were married from 2004 to 2014.
Meanwhile, Affleck has three children — Violet, 16, Seraphina, 13, and Samuel, 9 — he shares with ex-wife Jennifer Garner, whom he was married to from 2005 to 2018.
Lopez said of her and Affleck’s evolving romance, “It’s lovely the way it seems quite different than it did years ago.” “It’s good that there’s more of an awareness and celebration for it.” ‘Oh wow, we’re not used to this, and it’s so lovely,’ they said.
“But also, we’re at a different place in our lives, in terms of who we were and what we’ve done in our lives since then,” she continued.
