Senegal wins its first AFCON title after a penalty shootout victory over Egypt.

Senegal won the Africa Cup of Nations for the first time on Sunday, February 6, after defeating Egypt on penalties.

Senegal won the shootout 4-2 after Sadio Mane, who had missed a chance in the first half, converted the game-winning penalty.

After extra time, the final score was 0-0.

The final, held at the Olembe Stadium in Yaounde, Cameroon, was advertised as a showdown between Liverpool teammates Mané and Mohamed Salah.

Egypt goalkeeper Gabaski was chosen man of the match after keeping Senegal at bay for 90 minutes and then making an outstanding stop in extra time to deny Senegal substitute Bamba Dieng.

Senegal had previously lost two finals, including the most recent African Cup in Egypt in 2019, which left Mané distraught.
