Sergio Aguero accused his former club of using him as a ‘political pawn,’ denying rumours of a comeback two months after retiring.

Sergio Aguero has accused his previous club Independiente of spreading misleading information about his comeback.

After experiencing chest problems while playing for Barcelona in a La Liga match against Alaves, the former Manchester City and Barcelona striker announced his retirement from sport in December after being diagnosed with cardiac arrhythmia.

According to reports in Argentina, Aguero, 33, was practicing with Independiente, where he began his career, in preparation for a possible comeback to action.

The Manchester City veteran, though, debunked the rumors and attacked the Independiente management during one of his regular Twitch sessions.

‘I want to tell the board that they shouldn’t use me as a political pawn,’ Aguero stated. ‘Do not bother me; I have nothing to do with it.’ Since I left, I haven’t spoken to anyone at the club.’

At the age of nine, the attacker joined Independiente and made his senior debut in 2003, when he was just 15 years old.

In 2006, he left the club to join Atletico Madrid, and five years later, he joined Manchester City.
