Teacher arrested for pulling 12-year-old student’s hair

A teacher has been charged after allegedly tugging a 12-year-old student’s hair.

According to accounts, the teacher grabbed the student’s hair during an altercation at a Connecticut magnet school last week, making her the district’s fourth teacher arrested since November.

Around 3:45 p.m. on Feb. 1, police responded to a reported assault at the King/Robinson Inter-district Magnet School in New Haven.

Officers say the student accused her teacher of yanking her hair during their inquiry, according to WTNH.

Jennifer Wells-Jackson, a 49-year-old veteran schoolteacher, was charged with second-degree breach of peace and risk of injury to a kid.

The teacher appears to be holding Destinique James’ hair behind her while several other pupils yell around her before she lets go.

According to investigators, the student was not gravely harmed and denied medical treatment.

Destine James, the student’s mother, told WTNH that the episode appalled her. When the altercation occurred, her daughter told her that the last bell of the day had just rung, dismissing students.

Destine stated, ” “There are some things you should say and certain things you should not say, as well as certain things you should do and certain things you should not do while interacting with other people’s children. At the end of the day, there’s no excuse for touching another person’s child.”

Officials with the New Haven Public Schools stated the district takes student safety very seriously and is fully cooperating with the investigation.

Wells-Jackson was freed on a $20,000 bond and is due in court later this week.
