An assassination attempt on a US mayoral candidate fails.

An assassination attempt on a US politician running for mayor was foiled inside his office.

Craig Greenberg, a Kentucky mayoral candidate seeking to become Louisville’s next Democratic mayor, was shot on Monday morning, February 14, around 1000 local time (1500 GMT).

The person who shot Craig Greenberg has been captured, and he has tweeted that his team is safe.

The gunshots damaged Mr Greenberg’s shirt, but no one was hurt, according to Louisville police.

Several people were seen being led out of the facility by police, including Greenberg.

“We consider ourselves very fortunate today,” Louisville police chief Erika Shields said at a press conference on Monday afternoon, February 14.

David James, president of the local metro council, told local media the shooting was an attempt on Greenberg’s life.

The attack comes after Greenberg last month released a plan to address policing, crime and quality of life.
