‘It’s harmful,’ Russia said of the US moving 3,000 troops to Eastern Europe in response to fears of a Ukrainian invasion.

In response to worries of a Russian invasion of Ukraine, Russia has denounced the United States for sending 3000 troops to Eastern Europe to protect Nato members.

Russia has 100,000 troops stationed near Ukraine, despite denials that it intends to attack.

 

On Monday, January 31, the Pentagon announced that 2,000 US troops would be dispatched from North Carolina to Poland and Germany, with another 1,000 already stationed in Germany being dispatched to Romania.

Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Grushko slammed US President Joe Biden’s plan to send more soldiers to Europe this week as “destructive” and “unjustified.” According to him, the decision has heightened tensions and lowered the chances of a political solution.

Tensions between Russia and Ukraine have been high for eight years, when Russia invaded Ukraine’s southern Crimea peninsula and backed a brutal revolt in the eastern Donbas region, killing at least 14,000 people.

Grushko stated on Wednesday that it would “please” the Ukrainian authorities.

The Pentagon previously stated that the American troops stationed in Ukraine would not fight in Ukraine, but would instead protect Washington’s friends.

Their deployment comes on top of the 8,500 troops the Pentagon put on alert last month in preparation for a possible deployment to Europe.
