The four teens who murdered Sofiat Kehinde, a 20-year-old girl, for a money ritual have been remanded in custody for two months.
Balogun Mustaqeem, 20, Majekodunmi Soliudeen, 18, Abdulgafar Lukman, 19, and Waris Oladeinde, 18, were arrested on Saturday, January 29 and charged with two charges of conspiracy and murder.
The boys were arrested on Saturday for killing and burning the victim’s head, who was alleged to be one of their girlfriends, for money rituals.
The defendants committed the offence on January 28 at around 11:00 a.m. in the Kugba neighborhood of Abeokuta, according to the prosecutor, Lawrence Balogun.
According to Balogun, the defendants conspired and murdered Sofiat Okeowo, a girl companion of one of the defendants.
According to Balogun, the defendants plotted together and murdered Sofiat Okeowo, a girl acquaintance of one of the defendants, Soliudeen. The defendants, he claimed, killed her by cutting off her head with a cutlass.
The prosecutor stated that the defendants murdered the girl with the intention of using her in a money ritual, and that the crime was done in violation of sections 324 and 316 of the Criminal Code Laws of Ogun 2006.
The defendants’ pleas were not accepted by Magistrate I. O Abudu, who ordered that they be remanded in prison custody.
The suspects were remanded in the Oba Correctional Service seeking legal advice from the Ogun State Director of Public Prosecutions, according to Abudu (DPP). The case was deferred until March 14 for a hearing.
The courtroom was also said to be packed to capacity as the victim’s relatives and other sympathisers flocked to the court to see the arraignment.
